There’s a newish spot on the island for breakfast – the charming Village BakeHouse.
It’s located in the historic Koal Keel building, which has always been a favorite of mine. The beautiful antique furniture is still there in the breezy sitting room upstairs – it’s a lovely spot to relax.
And breakfast more than lives up to the setting.
D is always partial to palmiers, and the ones here are big and buttery and sugary – perfect! I liked the apple turnover, tender pastry folded around softly cooked apple filling.
But my favorite was the apple tart, a puff pastry base with a delicate layer of vanilla custard, then thinly sliced apples fanned over the top.
Just across the street is one of the prettiest buildings in Anguilla, framed by a dazzlingly colorful tangle of wildflowers that stretches high overhead. I left D with his coffee and crossword to run over and snap a few photos.
It takes a lot to lure D and me away from the Malliouhana for breakfast. But piling in the car and driving through the Valley traffic is worth it, to step back in time and end up here!
