Let’s conclude this trip to Anguilla with a sunset sail, shall we?
I’d wanted to sail on Tradition for a while, so even cloudy weather wouldn’t stand in our way. As soon as we were on board, sparkling Caribbean cocktails brightened things up nicely.
After our sail on Beauty in PSV, where the tradewinds are particularly strong, I figured that I was an old hand at sailing and boarded Tradition with confidence. Even for a new sailor, this is a comfortable experience and the crew took great care of us, pointing out the best places to sit as the ship heeled under sail and providing towels to shelter us from unexpected splashes.
We sailed out from Sandy Ground before turning back into Little Bay, passing the pelicans returning to their roosts for the night, and dropping anchor.
Some jumped into the water for a pre-sunset swim, others chatted on the deck with rosé in hand – and we all looked forward to digging into the marvelous spread of hors d’oeuvres laid out on the cabin roof.
There were deviled eggs, charcuterie and salami and cheese from a French shop in St Martin (and even pâté!), a crudité platter with hummus, tapenade, olives, dried figs, cornichons, and a wonderful tomato jam made in Anguilla – someday I’ll search it out, as it was delicious.
I held out hopes that we might glimpse the sunset from behind the clouds, but dusk fell without fanfare. Nature had a surprise in store, though – tiny phosphorescent sea creatures all around the ship, dancing in the water like stars.
It was a magical ending. Until next time, Anguilla!

Our family just got back from our first trip to Anguilla, and I just stumbled across your blog. Your photos are lovely. We stayed at the Meads Bay Beach Villas. I hope to return one day.
