Good Taste is the Worst Vice

Fat Ptarmigan, Anchorage AK

November 5, 2016

One final post from Alaska – our departure day meal.

I’d done some research on Anchorage restaurants, and it was honestly tough to choose just one.  In the end, we chose Fat Ptarmigan, a wood-fired pizza place that’s open all day, perfect for a very early dinner to tide us over for a red-eye flight.  Also, how could I resist the name?

Though I was initially tempted by the beer cheese and reindeer sausage pizza, D’s mother noticed the Alaskan smoked salmon pizza, which was definitely the right decision.  Besides salmon, the pizza was also topped with leeks and scallions, and a creamy dill sauce – unusual and tasty.

We passed up the local beer selection in favor of wine, but it was fun to check out the various tap handles, complete with polar bear and an oilfield worker representing Roughneck Stout.

A fitting finale to our Alaska trip!
