I was curious to check out the Auberge du Soleil (probably Napa Valley’s best known luxury resort), so D and I stopped in for a drink one afternoon.
We snagged a table on the shady porch overlooking the valley; on a Sunday afternoon, it was packed!
A dish of olives was delivered with our menus, reminding us of France – perfect to nibble on while we took in the view.
I ordered an “Auberge Sunset” (basically a Napa sparkling wine version of a champagne cocktail) and D had a glass of the Auberge’s own label Chardonnay.
We wanted just a bite more to eat, so I chose the fromage blanc tartine with chives, expecting a simply garnished flatbread.
Instead, we were presented with a luxuriously plush pile of chives that completely covered the bread and creamy cheese. Very green and very tasty.
I wasn’t tempted by the idea of staying at the Auberge, but it’s a nice spot to get away (and above) the bustle of the valley for a light lunch or an afternoon break.
