It’s a two day trip from Chicago to Anguilla – but every minute of travel time is forgotten when we arrive and see this:
Our voyage starts bright and early, en route to New York – the only non-stop United flight to Saint Martin leaves Newark at 8am, so we need to spend the night. Last year, trying to be efficient, we stayed at a Newark airport hotel that was both very drab and located next to the local prison; this year, we flew into LGA and stayed in Manhattan. Lunch at Per Se and drinks with a friend at our hotel, the NoMad – much nicer!
The next morning, we head to the airport bright and early once again, carrying a bag of Bouchon Bakery treats. My apple galette was a perfect airport breakfast.
When we land in Saint Martin, there’s still one more leg of the trip to go – the (very) short flight to Anguilla. The first time I took one of these tiny planes, it was both fun and scary… they still make me a little nervous.
Looking at the gorgeous view of Anguilla helps (and it also means we’re getting closer to landing).
At last, we see the runway…
…And then we’re off the plane and heading to the terminal for immigration and customs, and vacation can begin.
